Good morning from Langley, BC. Below is a brief rundown of market updates for Monday February 6th, 2023

BC Speculation and vacancy tax declarations are open and due by March 31st.

Title fraud

Title fraud has been surging in Toronto with almost 30 homes sold by fraudsters holding fake ID’s. While the issue is prevalent in Toronto, it hasn’t surged in BC in the same way. To date, 2 homes in Richmond have been sold by fraudsters since 2019. The perpetrators get fake ID and sell the property while the owners were abroad.

Strata Property Act Changes

Minimum CRF Contributions requirements have doubled, increasing from 5% of operating costs to 10% to of operating costs. For many, this will mean an increase in strata fees.

Changes for Form B

As of April 1st:

1 – Insurance coverage is now included as part of the Form B as a required attachment.
